The PM Schools for Rising India (PM SHRI) Scheme is a transformative Centrally Sponsored Scheme launched by the Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Education, Government of India. With a total budget outlay of ₹27,360 Crore, the scheme upgrades more than 14,500 existing Central, State, and Local Body government schools (including Kendriya Vidyalayas and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas) into modern, high-tech exemplar institutions that lead the nationwide implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP 2020).
PM SHRI schools showcase the future of public education in India. Departing from traditional rote memorization, these institutions emphasize experiential, inquiry-driven, and conceptual learning. Each PM SHRI school is equipped with interactive digital smart boards, high-speed optical fiber internet, robotics and artificial intelligence STEM laboratories, early childhood learning play-zones, vocational internship workshops, certified sports grounds, and eco-friendly 'Green School' facilities (rooftop solar panels, rainwater harvesting, LED lighting, and nutrition gardens).
Detailed academic and developmental opportunities provided to students in PM SHRI schools include: 1. World-Class Infrastructure at Zero Tuition Cost: Children from underprivileged backgrounds gain access to private-school grade smart classrooms, modern science laboratories, and digital libraries completely free of tuition fees. 2. Vocational Skill Exposure (Bagless Days): Hands-on training in carpentry, electrical wiring, coding, organic agriculture, pottery, and digital design through local master artisans and industry partners. 3. Early Childhood Balvatika Learning: Specialized activity-based foundational learning spaces for children aged 3 to 6 years, ensuring strong reading, writing, and numeracy basics. 4. Comprehensive Mental Health & Counseling: Mandatory on-campus student counselors, wellness teachers, and regular physical health checkups. 5. Mentorship for Surrounding Schools: PM SHRI schools act as regional hub-schools, mentoring and sharing laboratory and sports resources with 5 to 10 neighboring rural schools in the cluster.
Eligibility for student admission into PM SHRI Schools: • Target Students: All Indian schoolchildren from Pre-Primary (Balvatika) up to Class 12th. • Admission Rules: Follow standard admission guidelines of the respective school authority (Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan - KVS, Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti - NVS, or State Education Department). • Inclusivity: 100% barrier-free access for Children with Special Needs (Divyangjan / CwSN) with accessible ramps, Braille textbooks, and special educators.
