Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN)

Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) is a 100% Central Sector Scheme administered by the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Government of India. The scheme provides supplementary annual income support of ₹6,000 to eligible landholding farmer families across the country to assist with agricultural input costs, subject to land record verification, Aadhaar eKYC, and statutory exclusion criteria.

Launched to provide predictable liquidity at the beginning of major cropping cycles, PM-KISAN disburses funds directly into farmers' verified bank accounts without intermediaries via the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) framework. The annual benefit of ₹6,000 is paid in three equal installments of ₹2,000 each across four-month periods: April–July (Period 1), August–November (Period 2), and December–March (Period 3). Disbursal requires three mandatory verifications: authenticated land records (Land Seeding), completed eKYC, and active Aadhaar-bank account mapping on the NPCI gateway.

Eligible landholding farmer families receive ₹6,000 per year in three equal tranches of ₹2,000. These installments are synchronized with India's agricultural sowing periods to help farmers purchase certified seeds, fertilizers, micro-nutrients, and machinery hire before seasonal field operations. While the Ministry has conducted special saturation drives to facilitate Kisan Credit Card (KCC) access for PM-KISAN beneficiaries, KCC issuance is not an automatic PM-KISAN grant and remains subject to standard bank credit appraisal and land verification.

The scheme defines a beneficiary 'Farmer Family' as a unit comprising husband, wife, and minor children owning cultivable land as per the land revenue records of their respective State or Union Territory. The following categories are strictly EXCLUDED from receiving PM-KISAN benefits: 1. Institutional landholders. 2. Former and present holders of constitutional posts. 3. Former and present Ministers, MPs, MLAs, MLCs, Mayors of Municipal Corporations, and Chairpersons of District Panchayats. 4. Serving or retired officers and employees of Central/State Government Ministries, Offices, Departments, and Public Sector Enterprises (excluding Multi-Tasking Staff / Class IV / Group D employees). 5. All superannuated or retired pensioners whose monthly pension is ₹10,000 or more (excluding MTS / Class IV / Group D). 6. All persons who paid Income Tax in the last assessment year. 7. Registered professionals (Doctors, Engineers, Lawyers, Chartered Accountants, and Architects).

To register or resolve pending verification flags, farmers need: 1. Aadhaar Card: Mandatory primary identity document. 2. Land Records: Updated Khatauni, Khasra, or Record of Rights (RoR) confirming cultivable agricultural land title in the applicant's name. 3. Bank Account Details: Active savings account mapped to Aadhaar with NPCI Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) enablement. 4. Active Mobile Number: Linked with Aadhaar for receiving OTP verifications and installment SMS alerts.

Farmers can enroll through self-registration or through an authorized Common Service Centre: Step 1: Visit the official portal https://pmkisan.gov.in and click on 'New Farmer Registration'. Step 2: Select 'Rural' or 'Urban Farmer Registration', enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number and active mobile phone, select your State, and submit. Step 3: Enter the 6-digit OTP sent to your Aadhaar-linked mobile phone to unlock the registration form. Step 4: Enter your district, sub-district, block, and village. Ensure your personal name matches your Aadhaar card character-for-character. Step 5: Enter land parcel parameters (Survey/Khata number, Khasra number, and land area in hectares) and upload a clear PDF copy of your land ownership document. Step 6: Submit the application. Your file is routed to the local Patwari/Lekhpal and District Agriculture Nodal Officer for physical and digital verification.

Onboarding is open continuously throughout the year on pmkisan.gov.in. Installments are released tri-annually: April to July, August to November, and December to March. Beneficiaries are advised as an operational recommendation to complete pending eKYC, land seeding, and bank account Aadhaar-linkage well before scheduled release windows to prevent payment holds.

• Missing eKYC: Installments are frozen if mandatory eKYC is incomplete. Complete it via the PM-KISAN mobile app face authentication or OTP on the portal. • Land Seeding Flagged as 'No': Occurs when state revenue records have not verified land ownership. Submit physical photocopies of your Khatauni and Aadhaar to your District Agriculture Officer. • Bank Account Not Seeded with NPCI: Merely having a bank account is insufficient; visit your branch and submit an NPCI Aadhaar Mapping form to activate DBT. • Name Spelling Divergence: Differences between Aadhaar, land records, and the bank ledger cause automated PFMS transaction failures.

Ensure your land title mutation is officially recorded in the state land database before submitting your application. After applying, track your status every two weeks. If 'Land Seeding' displays 'NO', immediately submit physical copies of your Khatauni and Aadhaar to your local Patwari or Agriculture Development Officer (ADO) for digital sign-off.

PM-KISAN is India's largest direct income support initiative for farmers. By maintaining an active Aadhaar-seeded bank account mapped to NPCI, completing mandatory Aadhaar eKYC, and ensuring land titles are verified on the state revenue portal, cultivators can ensure uninterrupted receipt of their ₹6,000 annual agricultural assistance.
