The Mission for Aatmanirbharta in Pulses is a six-year Government of India initiative to reduce pulse import dependence while improving farmer income and domestic production. Approved in October 2025, it runs from 2025-26 to 2030-31 with special emphasis on Tur, Urad and Masoor.
The mission has an approved outlay of ₹11,440 crore and combines better seed systems, climate-resilient varieties, expansion of pulse area, farmer training, post-harvest infrastructure and procurement support. The Government's stated 2030-31 goal is pulse production of 350 lakh tonnes, with support expected to reach around two crore farmers across the mission period.
Farmers may benefit through improved and certified pulse seed access, free seed kits in targeted expansion areas, demonstrations and training, support for sustainable production, and procurement arrangements for key pulses. The mission also strengthens post-harvest value chains. Benefits are component-specific rather than one universal payment.
Eligibility depends on the mission component and implementing state or agency. Pulse growers are the core beneficiaries. Procurement support requires the relevant crop, participation by the state, and registration under the applicable process. Processing-unit assistance has separate entity and project conditions.
There is no single document set for all mission components. Farmer-facing support may require identity, cultivation and crop details. Procurement requires agency registration and records specified for the procurement season. Processing-unit assistance can require entity and project documents according to implementation guidelines.
- Farmer identity and crop records as required by the relevant component
- Land or cultivation details where required
- Registration details for applicable procurement support
- Entity and project documents for eligible processing-infrastructure assistance
For seed, area-expansion, training and field components, contact the State or District Agriculture Department and follow the local mission rollout. For Tur, Urad and Masoor procurement, use the current designated agency or State registration process. For processing-unit assistance, use only the official implementation channel announced for that component.
The Union Cabinet approved the mission on 1 October 2025 for implementation from 2025-26 to 2030-31. Procurement and component application dates vary by crop season, state and implementing agency.
Do not describe component-specific processing support as a universal farmer payment. Do not promise automatic procurement without required registration. Do not confuse the mission with crop insurance or a general farm-loan waiver.
Identify the exact component you need, then follow the State Agriculture Department or designated agency's current process and keep cultivation and crop records consistent.
